Serbian-American Scientists Day at Balboa Park

Serbian Cultural Center presents American-Serbian scientists at Balboa Park!

Presenters: Prof. Dr. Slobodan Cuk and students members of Nikola Tesla Club San Diego.

During the event, visitors will get the chance to experience hands-on demonstrations of Tesla's rotating magnetic field and induction motor. Additionally, there will be a demonstration of the Tesla transformer, which wirelessly powers neon lamps. Attendees will have the opportunity to actively participate in these experiments, making it a highly interactive experience.

Visitors can explore the lives and work of Nikola Tesla, Mihailo Pupin, and the Apollo "Serbo 7" launch team, and indulge in Serbian cuisine.

Movie Night

Enclave is a 2015 internationally co-produced drama film directed by Goran Radovanović. It was one of six films shortlisted by Serbia to be their submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. On 3 September 2015 it was selected to represent Serbia for the Foreign Language Oscar.
The main theme of the film is life of Kosovo Serbs in small isolated ethnic enclaves.

After a successful concert last year, guitarist and composer Nemanja Bogunović will be performing once again in San Diego this year. Known for his romantic style, Bogunović will be presenting his new arrangements of the most beautiful and famous film soundtracks to the audience at the concert, along with his original compositions for the guitar.

On April 1st, 2023, the Serbian Cultural Center had the privilege of hosting Snezana Radojicic, a distinguished literature professor and accomplished author. In 2011, Snezana started an incredible journey, traveling the globe on her bicycle, embracing a life of nomadism. Her exceptional sense of adventure has taken her to every corner of the world. During her American tour, Snezana made a stop in San Diego, gracing the Serbian Cultural Center with her presence. The evening was nothing short of extraordinary, as attendees were captivated by her fascinating stories of adventure and discovery. Furthermore, attendees had the opportunity to purchase her books and have them personally signed by Snezana.

The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Washington organized a large conference for the Serbian diaspora titled "Strengthening the Ties." The conference featured panels discussing the enhancement of connections between the diaspora and Serbia in various areas such as culture, education, economy, and philanthropy. Our Board President, Vesna Jovanovic, had the privilege of attending this event and presenting the achievements of the Serbian Cultural Center in San Diego.
It was an exceptional opportunity to introduce people to the mission and work of our Center while also establishing connections with other organizations in the United States and Serbia.

On February 4th, the Serbian Cultural Center organized a captivating classical guitar concert featuring the renowned Nemanja Bogunovic. The evening was filled with enchanting music as attendees were treated to the mesmerizing talent and artistry of Nemanja Bogunovic, a widely recognized figure in the classical guitar world. The event provided a memorable experience, leaving the guestswere enthralled by the magic of his performance.

Nemanja has held several concerts at the United Nations in New York, as well as at the Kennedy Center in Washington, and in 2020 he made his debut at the famous Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall in New York.

On December 3rd, 2022, the Serbian Cultural Center San Diego hosted its First Annual Fundraising Gala Dinner. This event was dedicated to honoring Serbian-Americans that changed the world. The Gala recognized and celebrated Serbian-Americans who have left an indelible mark in various fields, showcasing their achievements and impact on a global scale. The evening was a testament to the rich heritage and immense influence of Serbian-Americans and their contributions to society.

This remarkable event took place in the exquisite setting of the Westpac Wealth Partners company space. The Gala provided the platform for community members, supporters and diplomatic representatives to come together and celebrate Serbian culture while raising funds for the School of Serbian Language & Culture, the Nikola Tesla Club, and to advance our efforts in securing Center’s permanent location.

The Gala featured an elegant dinner, an exciting living auction, rich program enchanting performance of a talented music bend. The presence of the Serbian embassy further highlighted the importance of the event and its mission to promote and preserve Serbian culture & heritage

Nikola Djuricko Book Signing

On April 10th, 2022, we had the honor of hosting the famous actor and children’s book author Nikola Djuricko. Nikola Djuricko, best known for his captivating performance in the popular Netflix show Stranger Things, graced our Center with his presence.

The highlight of the event was when Nikola took the time to personally sign his books for all the children in attendance. Not only did Nikola sign the books, but he also engaged with the children, patiently answering their questions about acting, writing, and his experiences in the entertainment industry. Children also had a chance to take pictures with famous actor.
